I am new to the bike scene and am looking to lower an 85 fj1100, I am not flatfooted enough to ride it. Are there any lowering kits available or would adjusting the dampener lower the bike?

It might be difficult because FJ1100 is generally lower then FJ1200. Last month I changed swing arm + rear shock from FJ1200 88' to my FJ1100 85'. It made my bike higher. But when you change the set like me, you will have opportunity to 'regulate' hight of bike by replacing element nr 15 (see here: http://www.powerpartsplus.com/pages/oemparts?aribrand=YAM#/Yamaha/FJ1200W_-_1989/SWING_ARM/FJ1200W_(1989_MOTORCYCLE)/SWING_ARM_(FJ1200W_-_1989)).

If you need it lower, having foam taken out of the seat would lower you instead
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

I'm about 170lbs when riding and also have short legs (30" inseam). What I did was to set the rear suspension at 2 instead of 3 helped lower the rear. The front I also set in the middle position spring and rebound but also loosened both triple clamps and the handle bars so I could slide the fork tubes up about 5/16" then re-tighten everything. This got it to where I can easily get both feet solidly on the ground when stopped. I used the middle settings for the front and rear suspension as I prefer a little more firmness that the soft settings provide, but the soft settings will also lower the bike a little more for you.

The right way would be spending a big chunk on an adjustable shock.

The wrong way is cutting the seat down a little (narrower more than shorter will make a bigger difference, incidentally), or reducing preload on the spring (increasing sag when you sit on it).

The cheap way is wearing boots with a bit of a heel to them.  :)

The most right way would be swapping a totally different swingarm and linkage assembly to something fancy!

From Thunderace fits quite well, and one can swap wheel on 17" with wider tire :)
I've seen also VFR mono swingarm in FJ. Looks really good! :)

Thanks for the assistance everyone.

This was what I was looking for. I don't have a lot of money to invest on the bike right now but I want to be able to use it. Thanks for the suggestion!    :good2:
