has anyone put an xjr motor in their 1100?
I was pricing out parts pistons bore 2nd, 3rd gears to rebuild my 1100 and was thinking an xjr motor might be the way to go

I put an FJ1200 motor in my 1100 frame with no problems. I just swapped over the 1100 pickups and rotor to the 1200 engine, so i can't see it being a problem with an XJR as it's basically a bored out FJ1100.
The alternator connectors might be different but it's not a big job to change.
I rebuilt my FJ1200 motor to XJR spec using 1100 36Y cases and it went straight into the XJR frame no problem, so XJR to FJ should be fine.

Forgot to say, if you do go down that line, don't forget to swap over the 36Y carb to head rubbers because the ones fitted to the XJR have got a smaller inside diameter and restrict the flow of fuel to the motor. Piss poor really, but Yamaha did that to get round the European emmission regulations, which at the time were getting strict.

XJR output shaft is a pinch longer.  Have to look at chain alignment.

Yeah, that's right.
I put the output shaft from the XJR into the FJ, oh yes and the clutch pushrod (as Randy reminded me about, thanks mate).
But a strip down and swapping the parts won't be a problem.

The wider XJR motor allows for a 5.5" or 6" rear wheel... so if you leave it as is you could then include a better swingarm and wheel with your mod.  I had to get a kit from Randy that included the cover, the push rod and the shift shaft to accommodate the 6" R1 wheel on my FJ (another thank you to Randy!).

Incidentally, I am just wrapping up my FJR1 mod and have a Thunderace swingarm, wheel, axle etc complete.  All though Carsick has mentioned he may wan the stuff he has not yet acted on any of it.... Carsick?

In the near future I will be letting go of a lot of stock and mod parts that I did not use..... cheap.
