hello everyone, well I think this is the summer that I am going to purchase my first bike. I have a Vespa Gt 200 that is awesome and I will still keep for around town and school but I want something that can take me a lot farther. I love bikes and there are 3 other ones that I need to have before I die, but I can't afford those yet. So after much searching and reading I've decided that I'm going to try to find me a FJ1200. But dam its been hard locating one. Anyways I'm about 7 hours away from going on to look at one. But its a little scary. Not only because it doesn't run but it looks like it was owned buy some weirdo who painted the whole bike white. So its all white just white, no logos no nothing just white with a black seat????  anyways I wanted to put up a picture of it and just incase I decide to get it, was wondering if anyone here could picture it as a blank canvas and tell me what they think I should do with it to make it look a lot better but I think ill post it on the general discussion forum so look for it there, thanks all and hope to use and give a lot on this forum.

Hi Xuno_G,

Are you sure you want to have an FJ1200 as your first "real" bike?
Then again, one that's not running is pretty safe - except to your wallet.
All white FJ's were sold in certain markets as police bikes.  I don't know if the one you're looking at was, but some other tell-tales are a single seat, big ugly panniers, calibrated speedo, and tubular handlebars instead of the normal clip-ons that normal FJ's came with.  AFAIK, Yamaha did not sell any all white FJ's to the public.
If I were you, I'd be cautious about any bike that doesn't run unless you're a competent mechanic and have the time and money to repair whatever is wrong, AND I repeat that the FJ may not be the best bike to start with.

Cheers,
Arnie

xuno_g,

Did you see the FJ that "HillsRider" has for sale in the "Bikes for Sale" section?

Cheers,

Hi xuno,

Is it this one?

It doesn't say about not running but that would be my biggest concern, paint is all about taste but not worth a lot if the engine is shot.

An FJ is a big bike coming from a 200 Vespa, are you sure about this?

I am in Arvada, let me know how it goes.

yup thats the one, I went and saw it today, like you all have said above its not running so its practically just a boat anchor. and i already have 3 of those so I'm not in the market for another one.

about the bike hillsrider is selling he posted that way back in March so I imagined he has already sold it by now. i sent him an email earlier just incase but I would be very supprised if he hasen't.

I know about the whole Jump from my Vespa 200 to  FJ1200, but the Vespa is the only other running bike I own but it's not the only other bike I've ridden so yea I pritty sure I will be ok with it. Not bored but ok!

So "scapello" where from, when and for how much did you purchase your FJ from. Ive been searching for a while and its getting a little fustrating.

Not that this will help, but I bought my '85 FJ1100 from Faye Myers, down in Arvada back in 2001.  They were decent people.  Every once in a while they show up at MC shops used.  Worth keeping an eye open.

There's still plenty out there just keep looking.

Good luck,

Dan

I found mine on Craigslist in Golden. At the time there were 2 1200's for sale both '89 and both with higher miles. One had 63k and one 66k. I ended up buying the 66k one for $2100 but it already has some of the standard upgrades. 17" Rear, Progressive fork springs, braided brake lines, shift spring upgrade, going rate here in the area seems to be around $2500. That is if you can find one.

Did you see these ones?

yea i saw those the one by denver has already sold and the one in colorado springs either has already sold it or is just putting the add out there to see how much he thinks he can get for it. because with his its about a week turn around for an email reply and the price on it keeps changing and has stoped replying to emails. I see also that the going price seams to be around 2500 but everynow and then you see a really good deal on one. there was a 92 with maybe around 30k selling for 1900 ofcourse that one has already sold. I'm still a student so cant afford anything big, and was hoping to not go over 2,000. I'll just have to keep looking.
