Me and a friend are doing/ bringing back from the dead a 84 FJ1100. Its not too bad just the normal stuff  to do on a bike that was sitting. Doing the carbs now. Thanks Randy!!. It is running a 4-1 pipe, Uni pods. 160, 40, 115 jets to start. Where should I set the neddles? Am at sea level now.  I have set the mix screws at 2.5  as a base. I cant wait to bet the bike on the road. FJ's are cool. I ride a Valkyrie. He wants to sell it when we get it done but I doubt he will once he takes a putt.LOL.  It has @ 20k, What tires do you guys run? I am going over the whole bike and will check it on a dyno when done. Not for the #'s but to see how the carbs are set.  Yhis site is very good, lots of good info and nice bunch  too. Thanks for any help and will post some pics . Doug.

Stock needles?  I'd stick .020" under them (raised slightly) to start.  Adjustable needles?  Someplace in the middle.  In either case, expecting to go back and tweak once you're sure on the mains.

Tires?  May as well ask what oil we run.  :)  It's a touchy situation!  Only a couple options if you want a matched set though, Avon ST's and Pirelli something will fit, everything else is really old technology.  Depends on your intended use, too.

And gosh, what a perfect time to consider finding a 17" rear wheel conversion and updating the front end to later fork lowers, monobloc brakes, and the 17" wheel.  :)

Na wont ask about oil.LOL. Enough of that debate in the Valk page.  Avon is what I run on the Valk, just wanted a hint or two. Not going cheap on tires no matter if he keeps it or not.  I dont think he wants to mod it to death but those sound good :good2:. Was a fan of the FJ's back then and now. If I could unload the Sporty I would buy it myself...... Then some extra modding would go on. Thanks.
