Dropped the FJ... again!

So, it was raining here in NYC and I had to do the mandatory "alternate side parking" thing. I had my yellow rainjacket on, which slightly disconcerted me and the rain was pouring down. Backing into a spot, I'm not sure what happened... I think I may have bumped up against the curb and lost my footing a bit. But that sucker went down hard! This is the third time I've dropped it... but this time was worse, because it fell against a parked car and smashed the FJ's windscreen. I also put a perfectly circular dent in the guy's bumper from where the bar end hit it... Not sure if I'm gonna own up to it or not...  :negative:

I managed to pick it back up after I calmed down a bit. Any advice on windscreen replacements? Also, has anybody ever dented someone else's bumper on a motorcycle before!?

Check these out if you want to purchase a new windscreen

I feel for ya...Mine fell over a year ago and did the same thing... :cray:.
If its an 86/87 give these folks a try. These are a good quality aftermarket screen from what I have heard.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

I've had far too many 'anonymous' dings, dents and damage to my unattended cars and bikes in my years to not put a plug in for owning up.  This is what insurance is for.  My opinion and all -which, with about $1.50, will get you a cup of coffee.

I just installed an Eagle Screen this Spring and am happy with it.  I went with the 'Wind lip' model which is about 3" or 4" taller than stock. The screen is good quality and fit pretty well out of the box.  I did have to file and frigg for about a half hour to get it to fit.  No noticable wobble or vibration to the screen at cruising speeds on the hiway of up to 85mph. I havn't been up past 90 with it on--
Positives--much reduced neck and chest wind which is what I was looking for with the taller screen.  No real buffeting----less than with the stock sheild. I'm about 5'-10" and wear a Shoei- RF 1000 full face helmet, stock bars and a corbin gunfighter and lady seat.
Negatives-- it may be real or imagined--I find I get blown around by cross winds adn semi's a little more with this taller shield than the stock.  Hard to prove--this isn't a controlled test..just seems that way.
The higher sheild does change the lines (looks) of the bike--I bought the dark tint screen--perhaps the clear sheild wouldn't show as much and help keep the more 'racey' look. It still looks good, just kinda went from SPORT tourer to sport TOURER if you get my drift.
They make a stock screen as well.
The service was good - freindly and efficient.
Good luck-

Where I've been drinking, that will only buy you a dirty look and a smarmy response.  :nyam2:

However, I agree; the right thing is to come clean about your mishap and hope that the car owner is a good sport about things. I'd be pretty uptight if I came out and found damage on my ride with no forthright confession from anybody.

That's my $4.97 worth (the value of my loaded coffee drink).

Thanks for the comments guys! Sometimes it's just nice to share your troubles and see what others think...

I was actually considering getting a laminar lip before this happened, but now I guess I'll just look for a higher touring screen.

I left a note for the person, but have yet to get a call. I think I could probably repair it myself with a blowdryer and some touch up paint, but I doubt the person will go for that...

Advice on windscreens?  Advice on whether or not to tell the guy?
I've got some advice for you. Get a damn scooter for the love of God!  They're cheaper than FJ's, lighter than Fj's, and you can drop em all day and not give a damn.
Seriously, after 3 drops you might wanna consider this. ::)

I guess you never drop your bike? Must be the beard mojo...
