The battery was from an unknown instillation date (came with bike).

I hooked up the new battery, turned the key and everything worked!

It actually started with more gusto than it has recently.  And, as a side note, the horn seems louder.

Thanks guys!  It wasn't the fork oil or the front tire.  Who would have thought?

I did get some of the gummy resistance out of the starter button and it feels more responsive now.  Thanks for that Dan.

It was the battery?  You're kidding, right?  It's almost NEVER the battery, it was just a lucky guess.

Just to be sure, install a whole new electrical harness, rotate the air in your tires, and fill up with DOT 5 engine oil to prevent this from happening again.
