What does The support bracket do that I saw on the RPM website do for the K & N air filter?

Do I need the Bracket?

I have a K&N air filter on the FJ I just bought .What does The support bracket do that I saw on the RPM website do for the K & N air filter? The support bracket is not in my airbox. How does this bracket fit in the box? I used a small piece of fuel hose to hold up the filter while installing the side cover to keep it in place untill the side cover was on. It appears the grooves in the cover keep it up in place after the cover is on.

If you are using K&N after market filter in your stock air box, you should not need to hold in place to get the cover on. The retaining rod does this for you. Your filter is likely not properly seated and allowing some unfiltered (dirty) air in. Contact Randy after the Rally, he may have a spare. Others my also have spares.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.
