Front Wheel Bearings

I have purchase the bearings from VBX.com as suggested in another thread.  I went to purchase the oil seals and the left side oil seal is obsolete, I have the right side one.  Is there a replacement one?

I don't think this seal is obsolete. There is a good chance your dealer transposed a number or entered a wrong number altogether. The correct number is 93105-45017-00 for a leftside seal. I recently purchased one for a 87 fzr wheel which uses the same seal as the fj front wheel. I know they are available in Canada. Try Yamaha Sports Plaza in Fairview OR. 1-888-977-7278. Goodluck,Hein

I was looking at the diagram so I guess I got my right and left switched. Part 93102-22014-00 is the one that I show obsolete....

I did all my bearings this spring and was able to get all the seals from my local dealer. This was for the front and rear, cost me about 45 bucks :good2: :good:

CBR Bearings will also sell seals.  Just find the number on it and they can match it up.

I email CBR bearings and have not gotten a reply.  This is Columbia, SC, if you do not own a Harley then you do not have a motorcycle, so getting parts is difficult.  It took me two days to find someone that would change a tire and replace a valve stem.  I have the VBX bearings in hand but no oil seals.  So let me ask this before I start the tear down on Saturday.  Do I have to have the oil seals?  I have sealed bearings so I assume I do not need them as a oil seal but would that cause me problems because they are spacer almost now.  Do you think I could get the old ones without damage, or very little and re-use them?

NM.  I guess boats.net was just showing zero stock.  Just talked to a parts guy in NC and he said Yamaha has plenty.   :dash1:

If you have sealed both side bearings, no you will be fine without the dust seals.
If you are real careful, yes you can reuse the old seals if you feel you have to have them. I've not bothered with then for 5 or 6 years now with any of my replacement wheels (OEM, Genesis or FZ1).

Are you using the -2RS rubber sealed or the –ZZ metal sealed bearings?  I'm fairly sure neither of these seals are totally waterproof.  The rubber seal is just clipped onto the ball separator and I think the metal is more of a shield than a seal.

If it was me, I'd find the seals.  Again, they should be available from other sources.  When I placed my order with CBR, they asked me if I needed seals.  I supplied the numbers and they sent seals.

Second the recommendation for CBR Bearings, ask for Charlie.  Only charged me $2 to ship the bearings from the left coast to the right coast.

Yup.  CBR Bearing all the way.  You don't even need a part number.  Just call and tell them what you're looking for.

I threw them for a loop when asking for wheel bearings and seals to fit my Ninja 250.  They were a little embarrassed they didn't have the information available and called me back in about 30 minutes once they found it.  They said I was the first to ever order them.

Great people, and usually ship the same day.

I start tomorrow on the project.  How much fork oil do I put back?  And can I buy the fork oil anywhere?

measure fork oil from the top with the forks compressed and springs out 120mm if you are 250lbs 130mm if under 250lbs.  use 15wt if heavy and 10 if light.
in a pinch you can use 10-30 motor oil or trans fluid , the different types are listed somewhere I think dextron 10wt and type f 15wt.

actual fork oil is preferred and any mc shop will have it as well as auto parts store.

1 quart is all you need, it takes half in each leg.
