sorry for my ignorance. the neutral light intermittently works. i thought the side stand switch was supposed to open the ignition circuit similar to the kill switch.........someone straighten me out please.

There are three such switches.  1) Neutral, 2) Clutch, and 3) Side Stand.  The bike must be in neutral to start clutchless, or the clutch must be engaged if the bike is in gear/ not in neutral.  With or without the clutch in, the bike is not permitted to run in gear (not be in neutral) with the side stand down.

Pretty sure this is how the FJ works.  That's definitely how it works on my Gixxer.

thanks for the clarification Dan. Recently i have had a pesky small oil leak. I investigated further and took the clutch slave cylinder and front chain/sprocket cover off and "accidentally" found the neutral switch barely held in place by 1 bolt and luckily i found it today because that bolt was almost backed out all the way. installed 2 new bolts and fixed both problems i was having; no more leak and the neutral light works again. THANKS for your time.

make sure you turn the handlebars to one side while its idleing or else you could get the dreaded fender dent from the heat off the headers melting the rear of the front mudguard.
