I was curious in 1984 -1989 how many FJ1200s were made. I have a friend who has the original 1986 Kawasaki 1000R Ninja (the one Tom Cruise drove in Top Gun). He is considering selling the thing, and I told him he may want to consider holding on to it. Over the past 5 years or so I have seen more FJ1100s and 1200s that you can shake a stick at. I have NEVER seen another copy of the top-gun ninja out on the road.....never.

Does anyone have any idea how many of these bikes were made? My suspicion is that the 1000R Ninja saw extremely low production numbers....It could also be a local phenomenon / statistical abberation in my area. Is there a website with production numbers of all the Jap bikes out there?

I don't know the productions numbers of the FJ's - but to correct Tom Cruise's bike is a 85 Ninja 900 aka GPZ900.  I have an 84 GPZ900 - Ninja only difference is the color -- 84 red -gray - red  --85 model black red black -- all colors tank on down

probably more info than you wanted to know about Ninja

PS - I still prefer my FJ ride over the ninja -- the plus about the ninja is the 6 speed gear box.

You know, I think you are right, its the 900 with the funny sharp corner under the headlight.

At any rate, I wonder if anyone has a link to jap bike production numbers. They seem to have that 411 for older collectable cars everywhere.....

At one point I looked and looked and couldn't find the numbers.  It might be possible to figure it out from serial numbers, but I had given up by that point.
