Human Ills

Hi all, I've always had my eye on the FJ and I finally got one. It's in need of some TLC but the tank is pristine as is the tail. I've been lurking with interest at the mod threads and would love to make some improvements one day.
I also have a new KLR, which I love as well. Which might explain why my first order of business will be a LSL kit.

Cheers!

Shaun.

Shaun where ya located on the left coast?

I be in Porkland Oregun..    :wacko2:

If you're around the area, I'd be happy to help you sort issues out.  Brian Hunt and I have worked on quite a few FJ's now (including our own).

Hi Mr. Bean
Ah I'm in Central Valley Wasteland of California.
If you are referring to the Petaluma area rally next month, then it's a tentative go.

Having someone that knows what they should feel like give it a go would be a plus, for sure.

Thanks for the welcome Mark. Taft? No, I'm in Manteca. The bike is a 91 Blue and White. Frame is rusty, I'm starting to think this is common. As for fork oil, any recommendation for a 275lb rider? Volume and weight. I don't have a book, so I'll look for a write-up. If you have a link, I'd appreciate it.

Shaun,

for your fork oil with stock springs I would recommend 15w. drain the oil out and if it looks real bad flush the forks with auto trans fluid. with the top caps removed and springs out compress forks until bottomed out then add fork oil to six inches below top of forks. this is the easiest way other than using a measuring by ounce thingamajig . just take a old dipstick or hose and mark off six inches and there you go.
service hint......the rear axle nut is the correct size to remove your fork caps.
service hint......of the two screws you will see at the bottom of your forks the upper one is the drain.

manteca is not a bad town and you have great access to the hills.
have fun.

Seems pretty straightforward. Thanks for the info.

Yes, Manteca is a great jumping off point for a bunch of different rides :).
