FJ down on I-5

That was me, around 6:20 PDT, in LA.  Went down at about 45-50.
Locked the front wheel on something slippery, and it just folded under
me!  Thankfully the cagers all stopped before getting even close to
me.  Several of the car guys helped out, picking up my tank bag,
stopping traffic and 2 of these nice folks helped me get the bike
upright and over to the shoulder.

Damage to the FJ is minimal; broken left mirror, ground down left air
scoop & ignition cover, and the muffler is now flat-spotted at the
exit.

It could heve been worse!.  Thankfully, I was wearing  ALL MY GEAR!
Leather jacket got a little scuffed and blew a seam from elbow to
wrist (I landed on my left elbow)  Gloves, boots & pants all look a
little worse for wear, but they  can all be replaced.  As we've all
read before, WEAR YOUR GEAR!!!!!!

Damn, Ed...  sure sorry to hear about that, glad it wasn't worse, though.

Let me look around here.  I'm sure I have a couple of l/s cans, and maybe the mirror, if Paul doesn't still want it.

A good case for the Renntecs, huh?

Hey Ed,

Glad to hear you are ok.  Bike bits can be replaced, and good to know your gear did it's job.

I was also going to suggest the Rentech bars, although Randy beat me to it.   :)

Hope to still see you at the WCR.

Glad to hear you are ok Ed. Sounds like the gear did its job once again. 40 or 50 is no slow speed to tuck the front wheel. Not fun. Sounds like a few bits and pieces and all is in order again.

Cheers...Jake.

ps..there is a nice looking ignition cover on fleabay right now....

Sorry to hear of your dismount, but glad to see your ok.  Good gear is the best way to protect yourself and at that speed good thing you had it on or it could have been much worse....

Ed,
Glad to hear you didn't suffer any significant damage, bodily or FJ-wise.

Been there, done that, at a little bit faster pace.  Luckily, the Renntec bars saved the right side of the motor and I could ride home.

You'll probably be sore tomorrow, start takin' the ibuprofen tonight.

Ed, damn that sucks...but like others have said...it could have been WAY worse...especially on the I-5!!!  Fuck!  Glad to hear you didn't get run over!  I too, have gone down like that, on my birthday even (was going even faster when I hit pavement), and ended up with a hairline crack in my hip, hurt like hell for 3 months, then fine.  I also did not have the rentec engine bars at the time...but I promptly purchased them and have not gone down since!  (knock on wood)

Hope to see you at the WCR!!

Hey Ed,i just read about your spill! I can relate! On March 30th i too got a little too frisky with my front brake (90 FJ) I was running about 30 to 35 mph. A couple of vehicles in front of me braked suddenly & i grabbed a fistful of brake!!!!!!! Bike went out from under me in a nano second! I was wearing a Belstaff riding jacket, got road rash on my right sleeve & pocket. I found out that bluejeans don't offer a lot of protection! Got rash on both knees a couple of burns on the hands and a broken rib. I was wearing a full face Shoei & got a little rash on the right side of the face shield! I've been riding for 46 yrs & this was my first road wreck. The bike faired quite well, got some rash on the right Givi bag a slider i had mounted under the engine the right mirror & bent brake lever. I consider this event a bit of a "wake up call" !! It could have been sooo much worse. I'm going to do the Spring Rally in May if possible. I was riding my Sporster a couple of days after this little adventure. Hope your "on the mend" Take Care  Paul
