A few '84 front fork oddities and questions

I just got the forks apart and cleaned up on my '84.  The first thing that I noticed out of the ordinary is that there is no spacer on top of the fork springs.  The springs are long enough that a spacer is not needed.  Are these some sort of aftermarket springs?  It's great if they are, but I'd like to make sure that they're correct.  With the fork all the way extended and the preload adjuster at the setting for the least preload, the fork cap is held out of the fork about 1/4" by the spring before the threads engage (if that makes sense).  Does this seem about right?
Also, I can't seem to find the "oil lockpiece" that goes on the bottom of the damper rod.  There is a raised boss at the bottom of each fork slider that the end of the damper rod fits into, but they seem to be part of the slider itself and not removable.  Are these the lockpieces that are maybe just stuck there?
One more thing.  At the very bottom of each chrome fork tube there's a hole on each side of the tube right above the bushing.  Inside the tube near these holes there's a bushing with two holes in it.  On one of my forks, the holes are more or less lined up, but on the other fork they're not.  Neither bushing seems to want to move very easily.  Do the holes need to be lined up?  Are the bushings removable?
Thanks.

the lock pieces could be stuck to the bottom of the fork leg thats where all the gunk builds up....   (they look like upside down flowerpots) i know mine were stuck solid.

insert the damper rod in the top of the "pot"  then give it a little offside tilt and the lock piece should pop loose

dont lose the spring and flat washers..... they should have been the last parts on the damper rod with the flower pots stayin inside the fork legs.  :good:

My forks were indeed very gunky.  The oil that drained out of them looked like it came out of a diesel truck with a neglectful owner.  I cleaned the hell out of them in an industrial cleaning tank and they're squeaky clean now, though.  I tried to pop the upside-down flowerpots out with the damper rods, but they fit is not very tight and the rods contact the sides of the tubes before any popping happens.  I thought about trying to use a long screwdriver to try to brake them loose, but I guess that they really don't need to come out.
I still have the thin springs and washers.  I guess that it's cool that my bike has been modified with some aftermarket stuff, I just wish that I had a better idea of what's been done to it and what hasn't.
My Tarozzi rearsets are another story altogether.  Talk about a bubba'd up mess.  I'll post my un-bubba'ing results after my McMaster order arrives.
My RaceTech emulators and fork bushings should arrive on Tuesday, so hopefully the forks will be back together and (far) better than new soon.
