I am interested in doing the external voltage regulator mod.  I have all the parts and I understand the instructions.  I haven't actually done the job yet because I would like to hear from someone (anyone) who has done this and can tell me that it is an improvement over stock.  Any opinions are welcome.

Thanks,
Gilbert

I did the install a while ago.  I installed the regulator where the
shock adjustment used to live.  Simple mount, if you have the space.
I also made the mistake of cutting the wrong wire, which shorted the
regulator!  Be careful to put the regulator in the correct lead.
After install, rev the engine to at least 3,000 to verify charging.
The regulator I installed was the adjustable variety, so I adjusted it
to output 13.7~ 13.8 V around 3,500 rpm.  That's all I have to offer.
