swingarm for FJ1100 with GSXR1100 rim?

Hello, is there a "better" swingarm option for a FJ1100 that has had the GSXR1100rim/180 tire mod done?
Or am I looking at a full swingarm/wheel option from another bike?

No, the 1st gen FZ1 is what I used.....takes a larger diameter hollow axle.

Pretty easy swap all considered. The arm pivot needs approx 2mm off either side - use all the OEM FJ bearings and spacers/end caps and shaft - the bearings are pressed in a little further obviously. Mine is a '91 - setup would be different for earlier bikes such as Franks. On mine, the shock offset was taken care of with a stack of washers. I also used Soupy's adjustable dogbones and now have a Pensky shock but originally used an OEM shock.
You will need to replace the rear brake light mechanical switch with a pressure activated banjo switch, and if using FZ1 wheel, flip the wheel sprocket and use a honda '86 VF1000R c/s sprocket...... look at this post for more info on that: http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=2420.0

Thanks Harvy, but Im looking to swap to a better functioning or looking swingarm that will accept the gsxr1100 wheel, as I have just completed that mod to my FJ1100.
The stock FJ1100 swingarm I have now is a bit banged up, usuable ....but cosmetically ugly.

What worked well for me when I replaced the swing arm bearings was to have the stock swing arm strengthened by having side plates welded to the outside surfaces and cross bracing added as well. That way I kept all the stock components and eliminated the need for shims as well.

As an added bonus (based on the performance of their Fork Valves) there is now no doubt that the swing arm will be able to handle the added stress that will be imposed upon it by the hopefully soon to be available rear shock from RPM.

As far as the bearings go, good luck with the Yamaha dealer. They had trouble even finding the listings for the numerous bearings in the swing arm & linkage. RPM has those all in one place too (as kept in stock).

Good morning,

Photos of the swing arm are posted in the Gallery, under the Motorcycle heading. (I'm still learning how to post in the correct place...).

I powder coated it black, blends in with the stock mufflers, probably should have stayed with the original silver.

My swing arm is steel, but you can do the same with the early model aluminum swing arms.
