Generally I`m just lurking but trying to discover the best alternative to the "Tourer" screen on both my (93 FJ`s). The wind buffetting i find horrendous. (And me thinks responsible for my Tinnitus). I`ve got a home made one on my dirt bike that works better. i am buying a new helmet and I`ve got the good (Ear injected mouldings) ear protection now (though too late to stop the buzzing in my ears). Any suggestions welcomed.

I've found most of the taller windscreens actually increase the wind noise and turbulence, depending on your height and seat style (stepped, flat etc.).  I'm running an Eagle Screen on my 91 and it's great.  I'm 6'0" with a Corbin solo saddle.  It keeps the wind blast off my chest at speed but allows my helmet to be in fairly "quiet" air.

I've had good luck with a Lockhart Speedscreen, essentially the stock profile, then using a stockpot lid and a RotoZip/Dremel to cut out a curved section at the top and polish the edge. It's true that a taller screen increases or changes the point of the turbulence. Lowering the screen actually seems to be more effective. I'm 6'3".

Thanks Guys. Just shot off an email to both Eagle & Lockhart. My head`s a bit closer to the ground, so may need the screen likewise. Will remove the existing screen for this Sunday`s usual ride over the Hinterland. Would love to see a wind tunnel test but suspect practical experimenting with a grinder will do the trick.

How did you like your ride without a windshield? I took mine of while experimenting to find the right height, took a ride and liked it so much I rode without it for years (?). I only put one on because I got tired of the comments from people I ride with. And yes it is noisy over 70.

G`day Anson. Unfortunately didn`t get the chance to remove screen today. (Had to Strip a mate`s Suzuki 450 that got written off last week. the insurance company picks it up tomorrow for parts, He`s in a wheel chair for at least 3 months so we retrieved all the goodies that were extras. -  Spare clutch cable taped to existing cable, spare tubes, LED lighting, new chain etc - as the he had just bought the bike back from a Simpson desert run when he got T Boned 500 meters from his driveway) - Anyhow will get the chance next weekend so will report on progress. did you put on a standard FJ screen? I`m amazed at how many Bike enthusiasts have developed Tinnitus from wind noise, yet there`s very little documented about the problem. I have ear muffs in my workshop yet surprised they can`t design helmets around their principle. eg a padded ear coverage.-- why is it so hard to include in a crash helmet design?
