Oversized engine oil drain plug.

  Yesterday I finally got around to replacing my valve cover gasket, retaining bolts and seals. After a warm up to make sure I had no leaks,  I decided to change the oil. This is my first time for me with the FJ as I have only had it for 3000 miles. Much to my dismay, I have noticed an occasional drip or two under it when parked and figured it had an old gasket mashed onto the plug, so I have a brand new drain plug and gasket, and low and behold, I removed a single oversized drain plug(14x1.50 S.O. stamped on plug head). The gasket does not look bad at all.
   Anyone have any experience with this on their FJ and what are some good repairs or am I to start looking for a new pan. Thanks.

1st time i changed my oil after purchasing the bike, I noticed the exact same thing 14x1.5 SO..........I have since changed the oil numerous times, and has not ever given me a problem

 Thanks for the lead to the thread ,Bob. I think I am going with the Time-Sert product. I have seen it demonstrated and one of my vendors through my job carries it. They make a kit for Honda cars that has a 9.4mm deep insert. Other depths are available, but I am pretty sure this will be OK.
  I want to remove the pan from the bike to do it correctly,(meaning only once), but I have a move to your neck of the woods(Texas) coming up soon, so I can't get into it right now. I hope a new gasket and a little thread sealer will work. Thanks a bunch for the help. Jeff.

Sounds like a plan.  May even try using a crush washer, instead of traditional copper one.  Seems to work better and will require less torque to seal.  That's what I ended up using even after going to a larger plug. 

Let me know when you get to Texas and we can set up some sort of ride.   :gamer:  (need some sort of motorcycle riding smiley)
