i got a 1989 fj1200 off craigslist fairly cheap but the previous owner trashed the fairing and i really cant afford a new set but i found a junk yard locally that has a 1987 fz750  with good front fairing do you think this will fit with some custom brackets ?

Keep up the search for a 86/87 fairing. Trying to convert the  89/90 is a ROYAL pain in the A$$ and it will never fit correct and also the side scoops are different so you would tave to round those up along with the inner close outs and the headlight frame assembly.

And thats just for starters :wacko3:

i seen pictures of a 1987 fj1200 (reduced effect) with a full front fairing this is the type of front fairing i am looking for, also there is a company in california that makes a bike called Bimota yb5 which uses the fj1200 engine does anyone know if this bike fairing will fit or what bike has a full fairing that can be fitted on the 89 fj1200 ?? im trying to go for the more sporty look, but i want the power of this large bike i love the way it feels while riding its a very strong bike.

Even if the Bimota fairing fit, it would be cheaper to buy another FJ than to find a Bimota fairing to adapt to your FJ.  The YB-5 was only made in 87-88 apparently.  Keep searching!

This is an interesting story.  Really kind of circular in several ways.

Bimota, is/was an Italian Company.  They made some very nice high end sporting motorcycles using other people's engines.  They'd design a frame and equip it with all top shelf components, and make the whole thing look and work (reportedly) brilliantly.
One of the bikes they made used a perimeter frame that wrapped around the headstock which was supported by smaller tubes very much like the FJ does.  In fact, when  the FJ was released many of the mag road tests claimed that Yamaha had copied Bimota and called the FJ a "Poor man's Bimota".  They did make the YB-5 in 87-88 and it did use the FJ1200 engine.  Then they decided to make a bike called the V-Due, a 500cc 2-stroke bike with a fuel injection V-twin engine that they commissioned.  Unfortunately, although it was completed and a number were actually delivered to customers there were numerous problems.  Eventually, this caused Bimota to go bankrupt.

Cheers,
