My wife and I haven't had a street bike in MANY years, but we recently got a 1985 FJ1100. The bike has been in the family since it was purchased new, belonging to my wife's step father. Not long after he got it, he injured his back and wasn't able to ride it after that. The bike has been sitting in the garage under a cover for the past 20+ years. Once we cleaned it up the bike looks brand new, it only has 4682 original miles. I pulled the carbs and went through them, they were in pretty rough. The fuel tank was pretty rusty on the inside also. I soaked it for about a week with an industrial degreaser along with two pieces of chain with castle nuts welded on them. Next I sealed the tank with KREEM sealer. The gas cap didn't want to work worth a darn because all of the tumblers were stuck, I took it apart and removed the tumblers and cleaned them with scotchbrite. The slave cylinder leaked and all of the fluid left in the master cylinder turned to gel. I cleaned it all out and rebuild the master & slave cylinder. I don't have the tank back on it yet, but I took it for it's first ride using a plastic bottle full of fuel, this way i could run it without the tank and rule out any problems that the tank might cause. From what I've been told about the KREEM sealer I need to make sure it has adequate drying time, so I'm not rushing it. I rebuilt the petcock last night, it turned out well and the gas cap is working great.

start looking for a gas tank, that kreem goo never lasts and will plug your carbs as it starts to degrade.

great score on the low miles fj , be careful of second gear .

welcome to the group. :hi:

Welcome to the group!

Mark is right.... you may wind up having to do the tank over again and or find another replacement.

Kreem doesnt have a very good track record around here.

KOokaloo!
