Anybody have experience with both tires (tyres for you off shore folks :empathy3:)?  I'm in need of a new rear soon, and I'm looking for input about the PR2CT.  I've been very happy with the PR for ~ 7,500 mi.

TIA,

Ed

Forgot to mention, I'm on a 5" rim and need a 170/60x17.

That's the same ones I have on my '90.... I don't have enough miles on them to guess at mileage, but I'm very happy with thier performance. I have a couple thousand miles on them and they still look new....

Ed.......its not a Road2, but I am currently using a Conti  Attack that is more than adequate than anything I have thrown at it, which includes around 2500km in 5 days of touring on backroads......including around 20km of dirt road (if you could call it that). I've probably put another 5000 on it since then in both commute and weekend runs.

In my experience thus far, a very good tyre. I would think it has another 5000 left in it........ that would be roughly 7500miles....give or take.

Around the same as I was getting out of the original Pilot Powers.......... cheeper......... and I feel a better all round tyre.

Now I've gone and clouded your thought pattern haven't I  :flag_of_truce: :flag_of_truce:

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.

The gixxer has the PP2CTs on it.  Really sticky, great in the rain, and they warm up fairly fast, faster than the roads from what I've read of them.

Probably over-kill for my riding style, so next set, I'll likely go with the PR2CT.  I have ~3000 miles on them and they probably just past half way.

If that helps at all.

i have run 2 sets of the pilot road 2's     they wear fantastic... on the first set i got almost 10,000 miles and the front still had rubber left......they have great wet weather traction and plenty of stick in the dry.

for reference i have run at least 5 sets of pilot roads and never got better than 7000 miles out of a rear tire.

worth every penny!   :good2:

I've got a PR2 on the back of my bike.  This year's WCR was it's third trip and it still has a lot of life left in it.

When this tire is in need of replacement I'll put another on the bike without any question.

I am running a Pilot Power on the front and am very happy with the combo.

OK I'm convinced that PR2CT is the way to go.  Thanks to everyone for all the input :hi:

+1 what Frank said.  I have both types on my FJ's.  I have the harder (yet dual compound) PR-2's on the rear of both FJ's. On the fronts I have the PP2CT's, I installed just prior to the WCR.
Fast forward 4600 miles later, the front and rears look almost brand new. A very slight squaring off but this is to be expected due to the long straight highways we traveled across Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona.

I bet I could get 7-8k miles out of the rears and with the softer 2CT fronts, the same 7-8k miles.
I like to replace both front tires and rear tires at the same time (just a habit) that's why I went with the harder PR-2 rears and softer PP-2CT fronts. In theory they both should wear out at the same time. We shall see...

Pura Vida Eddie.

Thanks!

I used to be dead set against running anything but sport tires.  Had some bad experiences with the BT020 and Avon Azaro's on the back of the FJ, the sheer torque meant wheelspin was a common problem for me.  After using the BT021's on the kawasaki though, I must say that if you're considering any reasonably modern sport-touring tire, you'll be very happy.  Mileage is about double versus a sporting tire, and the grip is on par easily with pure sport tires from just a few years ago!

Either tire will undoubtedly make you terribly happy, but I'd go with the 2CT unless you find yourself wearing the shoulders out before the middle.  In that case, you're riding hard enough to probably be really wanting a more sporting tire like the PP2CT instead, really.

With the advent of multi-compound tires, unless cost is a huge factor, wouldn't you really prefer having a little more grip when you're leaned over and wanting it the most?

Done!  I just picked a fresh Michelin Power Road 170/60ZR17 for $112 at Cycle Gear.  It'll go on shortly ...
Thanks to all for the input.
