88/89 FZR Forks

I have come across a set of 87/88 FZR forks, damper rod forks still I know, but bigger brakes. The tubes from the FZR forks are pitted beyond what I think is repairable. So the question is can I use the fork tubes and inner components from my 90 fj forks with the FZR lowers?

Thanks

Shaun, FWIW, I'd get a set of blue dots, stainless lines and a 14mm MC and call it good.  Too much hassle that can be avoided.  My '89 has excellent brakes w/Blue dots!

Yup did the blue dot, line and MC a very worth while change and improvement. Still feels it could be better though, maybe its just me expecting more than it can give.

Are you still on the 3" wide, stock wheel?  More wheel = more rubber = more brakes, IMO.

For the moment, in the list of things to do is a change from 3" to 3 1/2" rim this winter.

For my money, you're better off with the 3.5" wide wheel, rather than chasing 22mm larger rotors.  Again, YMMV.

I agree 22mm is not much of a gain but then again the forks just kind of came my way. It is not like I'm hell bent for leather that I have to do the change it is more of do the tubes and internals go across as a note of curiosity. I thought I had read a comment somewhere on the board about swapping the uppers and internals but have not been able to find it again. if I happen a across a pair of rotors one day I might delve into it when and if I feel like it, I was just looking for some insight about the possibility  of, "does it work?" that's all. I am however looking forward to the wider front rim change as I expect that will greatly improve things although, I have read debate about that too.
