Motorcyles don't come with alternators??

A friend is looking to change his ride. So we went to a local dealer and he tried on some bikes.  Found a few he liked and thankfully he knows a FJR is too much right now (both size and $$$$$).

Decided to take a used bike for spin and it wouldn't turn over.  No biggie, likely been sitting a while so they hook it to a charger for a bit.  While talking to the salesman he made the comment that bikes don't come with alternators so once the battery goes flat they have to be charged.

At first I thought I heard him wrong, so I politely told him that I didn't hear what he said.  He then repeated the same thing.

All I could muster was "ah.. ok.." while trying really hard not to burst into laughter..
