Carb Drain Screws

Last January I installed brand new carbs from RPM. It was truly a plug and play deal. My next big problem was when my house burned down. My garage was ok being a separate building so my tools and bikes were ok. I lost power to the garage. My battery tenders were inoperative. Of course the battery went dead no surprise there. I went to drain the carb float bowls but the screws were insanely tight. Couldn't get them loose.I just didn't't have the time for pulling the carbs off. I did put a fuel preservative in the gas. Dealing with insurance and mortgage people has been rather unpleasant but the end is near. It's been roughly 4 months since the bike has been started. I was thinking I would have to take the carbs off to use an impact screw driver to get the drain screws loose.I'm hopeful that the fuel additive has prevented any sludging problems. It was ethanol gas in the tank. Any thoughts on potential problems and how to get the drain screws loose?

They are JIS not phillips, they also have a slot for a flat head.

Miatamarty,
You could apply heat to the carb body (not the screw head) using a beefy (100W+) soldering iron, or using a hair dryer (NOT with a heat gun, which can melt solder). Put very cold ice on the screw head, and give it a try.
If you can get a JIS apex bit in there, hold the bit in place and turn it with a tiny ratchet wrench, or a flat ratchet wrench.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Please no heat, those drain screws seal by taper of the screw in the carb bowls. When heated they can become even tighter.

Get correct JIS driver/bit or find a flat head the fits snuggly to loose the screws.
