Greetings all,

Happy to join a new community, and what better excuse than a motorcycle! In this case it's a 1987 FJ1200, so dark blue it's almost black. I have been a rider and an aficionado for the last 20 years or so, and somewhere along the way I've developed an appreciation for air/oil-cooled bikes, thus I didn't need much convincing to make an offer and take this FJ home. I like to tinker around, and pull stuff apart - sometimes I even put them back together correctly!
Anyhow, what fascinated me about this specific FJ was thee fact that it was in first paint (given that it shows age) and that except for an aftermarket rear shock, an MRA windshield, and some silly scooter mirrors, it's all original and everything is working. I haven't fount a single home-made electrical connection or extra wire, and bike is running smoothly and with gusto.
I hope to use this platform to learn about the FJ, as a resource for parts and advice, and hopefully I contribute with something from my own experience.
I attached a few pics. My FJ has 91000km, and is a polar opposite to my slightly modded f1150gs I've been trashing around for the last two years.
I admit I'm a Honda and a MotoGuzzi fanboy but I've been known to show up on a Yamaha in the past, and considering my initial impressions of the FJ, it's going to become a regular thing.

Looking forward to mingling with the crowd, talk to you in some other thread  :good2:

I will let you know most definitely, I have to change the fork seals and do the brake pads before I take it out seriously and really see what's the windscreen all about, one thing I can't tell you right now is that it feels really soft and flexible, so I'm not expecting much

About the windshield.. I went over the weekend for a first proper ride after the suspension and brakes work has been done. I've done about 250 my miles of mixed roads, and even caught some rain on the way. *Please understand that I haven't tried an FJ with a stock screen so I have nothing to compare the MRA to.
Even though is feels soft and flimsy when I touch it, it holds up very nicely on the road, there's no no shaking or vibration, and it doesn't create any turbulence. I haven't ridden at speeds of over 100mph, but even at a 100 it felt as good as at 50. I'm 6ft and at normal riding position the wind is hitting me at my upper chest, about 4 fingers down, and my helmet is exposed, at a full tuck (I don't find this position very comfy on the FJ) I felt some wind at the top of my helmet, again without turbulence.  Overall I find the screen to be good, however noting that if you want something to hide you from the wind completely it's not the one to go for.
