Hey FJ people, thanks for adding me to the group. I've recently bought an 87 FJ1200, and working to get it back on the road. 26,000 miles, in pretty good shape. Starts and runs (now after carb cleaning) but only on a remote gas tank. It seems that the electric petcock is not working. I took it apart and cleaned it, put it back together and installed it and the tank, poured in some gas, and gas leaked all over. Couldn't tell the exact source of the leak (yet), what with tipping up the tank and unhooking it. I see that new original petcocks are hard to find. Is there a source for the electric petcock?  Or is there a manual petcock that can be retrofitted?
Also the molded hose that distributes fuel to the carbs seems to be made of unobtainium. Any hints on these two issues? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the group and congrats on the bike!
Yes you can convert to a mechanical petcock.

The 84/85 petcock was my choice. You loose the electronic reserve, mine never worked. As for the fuel line. It is 10mm ID. And the routing is critical. There is more than one correct way. The original way requires getting the line to follow a an under/over and around path. Others have solved it with common materials. Try a google search with

Welcome in Pete,

I'm in the UK, but have family in Manchester and Bolton CT, so I'm often over in CT. Possibly catch up when I'm next over there ? Are you anywhere close to my family's locations ?

Welcome Pete, here's what you want:

Your 86/87 oem electric reserve petcock is no longer available so the 84/85 vacuum petcock (plug and play) is what you want. Besides those electric reserve petcocks were stupid to begin with...you have a fuel gauge, a low fuel light, and odometer...FFS how many reminders does a person need? You will find a good use for the unused reserve switch.

While you're ordering, get this kit:
http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=carbkit
Some fresh o rings and SS Allen heads, and your carbs will thank you.
Don't forget to replace those fussy float needle seat o rings...they are the first to leak...

Cheers.  Pat

G'day and Welcome Pete,

I had a crack in my fuel hose just near the petcock, probably from age and fatigue from taking the tank off. I was able to source a replacement molded one last year, just checked to see if they had any more but no luck.
