Hello gentlemen...I have a 1985 fj1100 which has been abused by former owners but slowly am getting her how she should be.I took carbs apart and cleaned every nook and passageway, discovered air jet in one of the carbs had been put where mainjet should be and viceversa. Also set float levels properly and I believe got carbs as they should be which was affirmed by her starting within a second or two of pushing start button. However a good friend rode her and said that although she ran really strong on two occasions when pulling off she died but he managed to get her going again and completed his ride.Today I was going to take her for a short ride and though she starts instantly and revs freely as soon as you release the clutch and try pulling off she dies over and over. She has a full tank of clean petrol a brand new battery and everything is tight.I am at a total loss and ask that someone more skilled and experienced than I may point me in the right direction...thankyou gentlemen....

Fuel starved? Pinched fuel line? Is your fuel line routed correctly?

Thanks for reply would it be fuel starvation even though in neutral it revs freely?

Are the mixture screws set correctly? Could it be running too weak causing the engine to overheat? Also has it got a blocked air filter or pods?

Which state has a higher load on the engine and requires more fuel?

FJmonkey

Perhaps you could describe the cutting out in more detail. Is it a sudden loss of power? Or does it start to stumble and then seem like it is starved for fuel and then cut out?
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Possibly still needs Carbs cleaned again.

So as you start to load up engine it starts to stall, keeping revs up while feathering the clutch and load, does that sound about right?

With this^^ thinking outside the box, if it's abrupt could it be a scenario where the bike thinks it's in gear, clutch let out and side stand down?  That would stop it as you are moving out. Someone here might have a good idea on how to rule that out.

We need more information like how is it cutting out and what does it take to get it going again?

Adding to this, depending on corrosion, heat, etc. if there's a break/short in the wires for the side stand it could cause this as well. Like others have stated on here its a NC switch so testing continuity at the connector end of the side stand switch will diag if the switch or wires leading to it are bad. Also try a jumper wire on the bike end of the connector.
