Hi, my name is Bas I a live and work in the south of the Netherlands.
My daily driver is currently a BMW R1200 GSA from 2008.
But I also bought a "new" project.
This Yamaha FJ1200 3CV from 1988 was sitting in a barn for more than 3 years, and it needs some TLC.
I am enjoying to read all the stories and tips and tricks here, and hope to get my FJ ready on the road again.

Hello Bas and welcome to the group  :good2:

That looks like a very original FJ. If it had been parked up for that length of time, then the first things I would be checking are the inside the petrol tank for rust and the age/condition of the tyres and them I would take off and thoroughly clean/overhaul carburettors and change the oil and filter. Then I'd check over the brake system and at the very least replace the brake fluid and also go over the clutch hydraulics (The slave cylinder piston+seals require regular maintenance/replacements).

The FJ is a very strong/reliable platform and so there's very little out of the ordinary, or specific to the bike, that you need to worry about................ BUT once start modifying it, it's like a disease, there are so many ways to help bring the FJ a little more up to date and improve its all round usability/performance, and most are very cheap and easy.

If you have any specific ideas or questions, just ask her and I'm sure someone will already have tried out done what you are thinking about  :good2:
