Hi guys, I recently purchased a new to me 1989 fj1200. I pulled the carbs off to clean, and when I put them back on there was a connector with brown and black wires coming out and I cannot figure out where it goes. Bike will not start if it's not plugged in, but will start if I run a jumper wire. Hope someone else has an idea. The connector comes out of the main harness near the fuel pump.

A few ideas: 1) Side stand safety switch 2) clutch lever neutral switch 3) fuel tank reserve.
Take a look at the coded wiring diagram in your Owner's Manual and see what's up...
Don't have a Owners Manual? See my signature line, down load one for free....
Hope this helps.   Pat

A picture would be helpful. It sounds like you are talking about the extra, non used, keyed plug. It is by the fuel pump and is not used on the fuel pump models. I don't have a manual near me or a bike to go look at but it does sound like what you are talking about.

Ignition switch rocker terminals dirty, ignition key going bad.

Awesome thanks guys, I'll try to figure out tonight and if I can't I'll post a pic of the connector
