Finally an FJ owner!!

Hello all from Montana! After 10+ years of wanting an FJ, my inner 16 year old is jumping and giggling. I finally was able to pick up my first FJ1200 today! I found out about these bikes as a teenager on an old honda 450 that just wanted more. Since then I never had the opportunity to actually own one. I decided this year as I was pulling the chopper out to start the season that maybe it was time I venture back into sport bikes. I listed the bobber for sale last week and had already had my eye on this 1986 FJ. Everything came together today as I said goodbye to the chopper and immediately jumped in the truck to go take this for a test ride. It was love at first sight. I really didnt even need to ride it, I knew it was coming home with me.

While this isnt in immaculate shape, its pretty frickin close. Previous owner was a reputable mechanic that seems to have taken really good care of the bike. With 24k on the clock, she's still getting broken in  Seems the few major "issues" have been taken care of. The clutch slave was leaking at some point in time as the paint around the oil filter housing is a little stripped, nothing thats new or recent but it did happen at one point. All in all I could not be happier. This bike is a dream to ride and so so smooth.

The guy I bought it from mentioned that this is the actual bike that was used in Robo Cop 2. I am taking that with a massive grain of salt as that is a pretty hard thing to prove. I did not pay a "movie bike" premium, actually got what I would consider a smokin' deal, but I would love to be able to verify if it is or isnt an actual movie bike. Could anyone point me in the right direction in terms of which bike was used in the movie, maybe someone knows the VIN for that bike? Not something I am really worried about because my enjoyment of this bike does not hinge on it being famous, it would just be cool to know.

Welcome to forum FF, it looks like you've snagged yourself a beauty of a 1TX. If you've been riding a chopper, the smoothness, performance and handling of the FJ will be a revelation, even for a 36 year old bike.

It's a testament to the original design that these bikes are still viable superbikes even today.

I've never even watched Robo Cop 2 (although I loved the original movie) and wouldn't even know where to start researching such things, but if it's true, it's just a nice back-story to the bike and if you keep it immaculate and ever take to car/bike show meets, it's always something that will get people talking to you. I doubt it will add anything to the value (unlike for example having the exact GPZ Tom Cruise rode in Top Gun), but it would be interesting none-the-less.

My FJ has been featured in one of the UK magazines dedicated to bikes over 15 years old and its made a few people come over to talk to me when they think they've recognised the bike (even in roadside cafe car parks). It's made me a couple of new friends just because of that

paint doesn't match the movie bike, unless it's been repainted:

The black stripes might just be tape over the "Yamaha" labeling, but the fairing has the white and red colors reversed from your bike and the movie bike bellypan is white and red while yours is all white. As I said it might have been painted since the movie or had the bellypan replaced (they crack or get road damage quite often), but based on what I can see in the pictures, I would be highly doubtful it's the actual "on screen" bike he sold you....

The movie bike is the colors of the 1987 US model. Your bike has the colors of the 1986 US model. So virtually impossible to prove. The 86/87 models are identical besides the paint job.

Yep it definitely has a slightly different color scheme. Oh well. Like I said that wasn't a selling point for me, just would have been a cool story for the bike.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to enjoy the bike since I bought it, an extremely late snow storm moved in yesterday and I am covered up to my knees on snow 

This will give me time to get it registered and let the snow melt, hopefully be riding next week and getting familiar with my new machine.

Great looking FJ.

On the comfort side, I have found the 'Leather' covered Corbin seats to be way to hard. A trip to the upholstery shope for a new cover made completely out of Marine grade vinyl makes the seat a bit more comfortable.

I'm extremely satisfied with the feel of my Corbin seat. It's more comfortable than anything else I own. It's 2nd hand though, and has quite a bit of wear and tear. So I'm currently looking at local upholstery shops to see who I can get to bring it back to "like new" for me.
