Hello everybody. I am knew on this forum and hope you can hel me out with a specific question. I am building a custom bike and use a Yamaha FJ1200 engine from 1986. I don't have a wiring harness coming with it. So I made my own one. But off course I need the proper CDI that goes with it or it won't run. So now is where your help is being asked. First some information

information engine:
1wl-000536

Information pick-up
Ignition: pu212-12 503Q with 2 pick ups

With this information I this engine belongs to the first generation (1986) and because of that I purchased the next CDI:

Information IC Ignitor
TID14-50
1TX-10

This ignitor has 4 pins on the left side (2x2) coming from the Ignitor and 5 pins on the right (2 above and 3 below). Going to coil 1&4 and coil 2/3.

Is there anybody who can tell me where each pin is for? Yes I do have studied 4 electric wiring diagrams I found on this forum which seems great and sharp, but they are all different so I can better find out weather or not each pin has a universal function before I damage the IC ignitor.

Your help would be really appreciated.

Thanks from Guido, the Netherlands

A 1986 1WL  is a USA bike

I don't have an online version of the 1WL owners manual. The best we have online is the 1WK manual which is also a USA and Canadian FJ1200. They should be similar, except for the KM Speedo.

See if page 105 of the 1WK 1986 owners manual helps you.

Perhaps someone with access to the GFSM can chime in.

If it were me, starting from scratch, I would not even consider the oem ignitor box, too much work.
Instead I would go with the Dyna 2000 aftermarket unit.

Here's the minimum wiring you need to get her running.

You headache will be less with a simpler unit.

I think I might have to use the german one. That's the only one which doesn't use a pin on the right up side...

left side 4 pins:
grey (from pick-up coil)      X pin not used

orange (from pick-ip coil)      black (ground from PU)

right side  6 pins:
black = ground      grey = to coil 2/3            no pin

red/white (+ from fusebox)      orange = to coil 1/4            black/white = to ground

Guido

Hello Pat,

thank you for your thinking and the VIN numbers. So it's not a german as I thought...

If I don't find out I will try other ways as you describe.
