Joined about a month ago and did things backwards as usual. Started posting before doing this.

Purchased a '92 FJ this summer and took a few months to enjoy riding again on what has turned out to be the best bike I have ever owned.

PO had the bike for 17 years and put over 35k of the 56k now showing on the odometer. Starts, runs and rides without issue.

Now that cold weather is coming there is a long list of things that need to be done. All hydraulics are original so they will be replaced or rebuilt. Calipers, rotors & pads are good. In addition the following will be done: Valves checked/adjusted, Carbs rebuilt, Fuel Filter & all fuel related hoses replaced, RPM oil filter conversion, oil line o-rings replaced (slight leak), RPM Carb Filters (rubber boots have developed cracking due to age), Tires replaced (Existing ones good, but 8 years old), and powder coating pedal support brackets and wheels.

Pictures show condition when purchased, and currently.

I have already learned a lot about these machines from this board and it's accommodating and thoughtful members. Hope I can keep my end up.

Welcome Marc, looks like you have an FJ in good condition and you seem to know your way around machines. Get your list checked off and get some Kookaloo on...
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Welcome in Marc, glad you've had some good riding out of her so far.

A couple of things I'd point you to investigate to prevent problems in the future.

1) the paintwork removed to bare metal of the right side of the petrol tank, down where it sits next to the fairing - they shouldn't rub like that and tanks are expensive (and so are fairings)

2) on the same side, it may just be the photo's but there look to be creases in the frame side spar - have you already checked that out ?

Loving the exhaust, and it's great to see you taking a sensible approach to getting her ready for 2022  :good2:

'86 FJ 1200 1TX - sold to my boss to finance the '89 3CV I still own.

Gents,

Thank you for the kind words and welcome.

Dean, great points. I will correct the alignment to ensure that there is no further rubbing. I did order a complete set of rubber grommets for the side and rear plastic panels. As to the side spar, you have good eyes. There is a small dent just to the left of the factory bend in the frame. The dent did not create a crease or bend in the edge of the spar so it was not compromised.

It's going to be a great winter bringing her back to 10/10th.

Have similar bike but not great condition.  Will keep me busy this winter for sure.  Trying to do the Reliability Rally next year.
