Hi all . Alan here from New Zealand. I have an 86 1200 with sidecar. My starter cltch has packed it in . On  stripdown we find the main starter clutch housing is cracked . I have sourced the springs and rollers. I am having trouble sourcing the housing and gear. I read on the rpm site you can replace it with an xjr type sprag clutch. Is this an easy swap to do once you are in there.? Does the unit just fit in or other mods needed. Can you use a standard xjr unit? Thanks in advance. I will try and get a pucture if my outfit up.
Thanks. Alan

Hello and welcome from Australia.

As far as I know the XJR starter clutch should be a straight swap (someone more knowledgeable please correct me if I am wrong), as the XJR is essentially the same more as the FJ (just 1300cc with Fuel injection)
while you are changing the starter clutch, install the XJR starter chain oiler, as it is shorter than the FJ item and will reduce that chain rattle that most FJ's have.

Good luck with it.

Good luck with it.

Hi Alan, welcome in  :good2:

I must admit to being a sidecar lover, but just a word of caution, watch the FJ frame carefully where the sidecar is fastened to it. I've seen a friends frame crack where the loads from the sidecar are transferred to it. Regular checks/inspections can save your life, and your bike.
