I have to send Pat's carbs to RPM from Wisconsin. And was wondering whats the best way.  Does USPS have a box that they would fit in.  Or  UPS. FedEx.
I  buy and receive lots of stuff but don't send anything anywhere.
Thanks.  Dan McCoy

Sorry, did not see this. I am sure UPS will have a box and sufficient packing materials. When I ship them from here, I have an 18x8x6 box and two packs of expandable foam. One on bottom of carbs set carbs in and let it form. Then put the second one on top pop it and let it expand while closing the lid. Carbs can't move around at all or get damaged this way. We get more carbs that have bent choke rods or throttle adjustment screws then anything because they are either packed too lose or in a box that they barely fit in.

USPS and UPS are really uptight about shipping flammable liquids. I have shipped a couple of carb sets to RPM. This is what I do.
Remove the bowls and get as much fuel to drain out as you can. Let them sit for 24 hours to let any residual fuel to evaporate. Put the bowls back on and tighten the screws. Wrap the whole unit in a couple of layers of the Scott brand, Blue shop paper towels. Then put them in a plastic kitchen garbage bag and seal it up real good. Pack it securely and ship.

G'day Dan, Robert sent me some rebuilt carbies in the exact method he describes with the expanding foam pads in a box. They made it across the world in perfect nic.
If the expanding foam is unavailable I'd wrap them in an old bath towel after defueling, then pack any gaps with scrunched up news paper.

At work we previously use a lot of those air bubble things, and they are not the best. We recently trialed some super eco paper which scrunches like news paper and is more effective. FWIW we are sending reasonably heavy stainless steel parts and they are arriving in great condition, with minimal movement.

Holly crap that was expensive. Ups store 1 box 2 things of bubble wrap 1 roll of tape. I rapped it up in the parking lot. And she Said the cheapest shipping they have. From the store to RPM. $58.62. :wacko3:

It has been getting exponentially worse month after month, it seems. I used to be able to send a cylinder head, pistons, and barrels to the east coast for around $50 when I had to send a customers back in March it was over $100. Tried boxing in two separate boxes even still added up to over $100. Don't even get started on 3 day or next day, a single set of carbs next day air runs around $300 last I checked

.....not being stuck in BFE with a set of carbs puking gas......priceless.

PayPal sent Dan, thanks so much...
