I let my bike insurance lapse with the intent of shopping around a bit. I was pleasantly surprised with a quote and flexibility that Hagerty offered. Anyone have experience insuring their beloved FJ through Hagerty? It's a bit pricier than the usual choices, but not by a lot.

I use progressive and have liability only.  Two bikes is $90/year.

That's what I had as well. I kept running into issues with Progressive messing up the winter lay-up transition. Just wondering if anyone has had good experience moving to an insurer like Hagerty that caters to older stuff.

I just insured my '85 FJ 1100 with Hagerty. Max available coverage with a $3k value was $190/year...

I have 5 bikes, all antiques, insured with JP Taylor.  They are on agreed value, anywhere from $2500 to $4500 and it costs me $210 a year.  Full coverage and pretty high indemnity of $100 grand to $300 grand.  I think they were recently bought out by Foremost so I'm expecting the worst.  Never had a reason to use them for a claim so no opinion on how they would react.  As soon as my R1 reaches antique status (only 5 more years!!!) it's going on the same policy.

I register my bikes as antiques in PA.  They require 25 years old and stock though they don't have any idea what that is.  I do it so I don't have to do yearly inspections and yearly registration fees which cost about $60/year in PA.  The cost for one time antique registration was $100 so the break even was about 2 years.  I'm not supposed to go over 2000 miles a year and only use the bikes for shows, and group gatherings.  Again, they have no way to determine that.  A few years ago I got a speed award from a state trooper on my FJ, antique plates and all.  No questions or issues with the fact that I was technically violating the antique registration.
The insurance companies seem to have changed quite a bit in the last few years.  I see that Hagerty and Grundy now advertise that they will insure anything including your daily driver though I don't know how that works.  I doubt it's for agreed value....Also, if you keep the agreed value reasonable (less than $8000?) they only require pictures not an appraisal.

To qualify as  antique in Wisconsin it has to be 1945 or older. You can get a  collector's plate if it's 20 years or older. $73 for the  first plate. They assign you a  collector's number  and it goes on the plate. For every bike you add to your collection  they add a letter to your number 406, 406A for second bike. $23 for each consecutive bike. Never have to pay for registration again. If you see  someone with a  z on their collectors plate they have quite a collection. (I'm up to d now) Supposed to be completely stock. They used to make you send in 3 pictures top and both sides. But now they just take your word for it. The  only restrictions are. You have to own or lease another vehicle. And you can't ride/drive it in January. Unless you apply for a  parade permit. Then you can.  I was going to get a collector's plate for my1984 35' motorhome. But I gave it to a friend of mine.

I got pulled over in Colorado with collector's plate on my 1350. Was following my nephew who lives there on his z1000. We had  just slowed down from 135+ when we came around a corner and there was a  Colorado state trooper.  He  came out right away and  pulled me over. Sat there  quite a while.  He finally came up  and handed me a  slip of  paper. And said that he pulled me over because he thought the plate was a fake. And he  checked it out. And the  peice of paper was to give to any other officers to show it had already been checked out. Lol. He said he didn't think my bike looked old enough to be a collector.
