Which of the studs were originally coated with what looks like some sort of heat shrink? I've got some industrial shrink here and am wondering if it's worth using or will painting the studs be good enough?

I think all except the 4 outer .Don't paint the 2 outer studs on right side of engine where the oil flows. I did and the paint ended up in
the oil-filtercasing . I painted mine with a heat resistant gray zinc primer and then a coat of high heat engine paint it all flaked off and that is the particles i had in oil-filtercase see picture.
A little tip is before you lower the cylinderhead down over the studs is to use a thin layer of tape on top of the studs on the treads  so you don't scratch / dent the sylinderhead gasket surface so easy.
