Vacuum caps

I still have the OE vacuum caps, which hardened, and I think may be a source of leaks.

Previously, on my other FJs, I used the caps commonly available from auto parts stores. The black rubber ones don't last very long. The colored vinyl ones don't work very well because they get loose when the motor is hot.

I'm thinking something like silicone should be good, but the only silicone caps I'm finding are either thin ones meant for paint masking, or something in ridiculously large kits. I really don't need 158 of the stupid things, just three that work.

Anyone know where the good caps are, besides OEM?

Can't help you with aftermarket ones but the OEM ones are cheap enough

Remember where these caps reside in relation to the the engine and heat shield.
There is a reason Yamaha designed these caps out of thick rubber.

Thin skin vacuum caps have no place here.

Hey!

Here,s a  way out!

Take drill say a bit thinner than the vacuum tube. Take a bit of tape on the end on the the feks 3,5 mm drill on the opposite end of the drilling end.

Take hot proof silicone and fill it into an nipple, that kind we use on the wheels to keep the air inlet clean. Then plase the drill with the taped end into the silicone in the cap- and let dry. After a while you can remove the drill easely and you have heath proof cup to secure the vacuum ports.

This is far better than any proffesionals ever made ;)

(popcorn)
whats the problem with the OEM version??

Unknown, 30+ years of service seems like a good compromise for a few bucks instead of piddling around with making your own or buying cheap ones from the local parts store only to have them deteriorate and fall apart within a year or two.  :dash1:
