Mtc,

Not sure why that mod needs doing, but maybe look into the coil-over-plug conversions.  Yamaha makes that stuff for other models, and you simply use everything (stock) that makes a 12Vdc pulse, then add the coil-caps.  No high voltage wiring is used.

You will need to log in there, to see pix.

Modders report more power, and smoother running at all speeds, with coil-over-plug.  I got the coil/caps from eBay, for cheap.  Not sure yet about which bike will get them, though.   HTH.

Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

I went coil on plug (COP) on my Venture/VMax hybrid. Didn't make a spit of difference. Idle, running, top end, MPG.....nothing. All the same pre and post installation.

Those that say it made a difference are either getting "the palcebo effect" or their coils (or something else in the ignition system) weren't up to snuff in the first place.

But then again, my bike was running fine before I swapped to COP.  If your coils are toasted, I'd switch to COP but mostly because you would be replacing the coils anyways. If the bike was working fine there's not much (if any) difference, unless you want to be able to tell people you've installed COP.

One thing you had to be cautious with on the venture was if you went COP with the original igniter box, you could burn it out. The COP's don't have the same resistance value, so the igniter box basically burns itself out. The cure was to install a resistor in line with the coils so the igniter box "saw" the proper resistance. I didn't have to install resistors because I installed a programmable ignition box (IE: Ignitech TCIP4) that had a setting to run COP's as is...

my issue is with the missing stock cdi/pickups/rotors, not the ignition coils, i am on  extreme budgetary constraints, until i am able to recoup  from selling dyna 2000

thanks for the ignitech  system info , i looked and i think it will address my concerns; circumventing  old and questionable devices offered in ebay
