So I noticed yesterday that my fj11 has a manual petcock but my fj12 I had had an electric one. I hade changed it out to a manual one because in reserve it wouldn't run good (had to have been plugged) anyways was it factory on the 1100 to have a manual one. Also the bike starts hard and doesn't idle with out holding the throttle cracked open. I can't remember how to adjust the idle jet or if there is even an adjustment. Apperntly after 7 yrs I forgot more then I thought I did about these bike.  Thanks in advance. Planning on pulling the tank and air cleaner box this weekend to go thru the carbs.   Any suggestions on spark plug for these as well?

Dieselman,

The FJ1100 has a vacuum petcock.  It should be open (flowing) with engine vacuum applied.  It shuts off if the engine quits for any reason.  You can pull enough vacuum by mouth to open the petcock, when testing.  There is also a screwdriver slot to open the petcock, with no vacuum applied.  Be sure that the fuel fitting is safety-wired into the petcock, because the sealant used may be old and may fail, resulting in an engine fire and total loss of the bike.  You can find pix on this forum.  The vacuum petcock should stop the flow of fuel, and the carb floats as well.  If both fail at this job, fuel can get into the crankcase, ruining the oil.  If the oil level ever goes up, or smells like gas, do not run the bike without fixing the problem and replacing the bad oil first.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Thank you I will check all the vacuum hoses and fuel lines probably pull the petcock and clean and reseal everything is rather not leak gas let alone light the bike in fire.
