So I need a manual.  The carbs are off and are just finished with Robert R.  I need to check the valve clearances before reassembly.  Although Robert recommended an excellent, brief Youtube video, I'm also old school and would like a paper manual.  I would prefer a factory manual.  A quick perusal of ebay shows numerous versions. First, for service work, am I supposed to use the Supplemental Service Manual or is this a supplement to a general service manual.  Secondly, for a 1990 FJ, I know Yamaha referred to it as a 3CV.  Would that be the designation to look at for the appropriate manual application?  I see A and AD models.  Thank you members.

Yamaha still sells the FSM, covers all of the FJ models. About $90, I think. Buy it online thru the Yamaha website.

Joe,

Almost every Yamaha FJR "manual" on eBay will be a pirate-copy disk, unless the seller specifically says otherwise.  Better ask, first.

The sellers' picture of their sale item may be a picture of the paper manual, but you will probably get a disk.  Yamaha never published the manuals on disk.

Thank you to everyone that replied. I'm thinking the factory service manual is what I desire.  If I can't find one second hand, I'll buy new from Yamaha.  I have a question about letter suffixes.  Does this chart look correct?

1993 Yamaha FJ1200AE-AEC ABS
1992 Yamaha FJ1200AD-ADC-D-DC
1991 Yamaha FJ1200B-BC
1990 Yamaha FJ1200A-AC
1989 Yamaha FJ1200W-WC
1987 Yamaha FJ1200T-TC
1986 Yamaha FJ1200S-S

Thank you specifically to Red for warning me about ebay disc manuals that look like paper manual auctions.  I did ask the seller and his response was vague.
