A lot of MC shops (regardless of brand name, or especially the independents) can take your busted special cable and custom-make a new cable for you.  Call around, or get a recommendation from a local fellow rider there.  It may cost less than the OEM cable.

Wha... I have custom cable, made it myself . There's a couple of small shops near me. I will check. The 86 has "unque" termination at the knob end, but maybe not so much. Doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks, Mike

I have been known to drill out the old cable (using the right sized drill bit, to match the new cable core) from a "unique" cable termination.  Then I fill the hole with flux, and melt solder into the hole.  With the metal hot enough to melt solder, use pliers and shake out the melted solder (outdoors, as you would shake down a medical thermometer).  Flux and tin the end of the new cable, insert the new cable into the hole, then solder the cable neatly into the hole.  . . .  ~Ta~Da . . .

One of the best soldering fluxes ( FAR better than rosin or acid) is called LaCo.  You can solder most metals (even most Stainless Steels) with that stuff working for you.  Costs ~US$5.00 for a few ounces, but well worth the price.  Not many places sell it.  Their website (linked below the pix) can find their dealers for you.
