Hello, I am a new member obviously.  My username is Tunedforks, ie the Yamaha logo.  I've been lurking for about a month now.  Lots of good information on this forum.  I've been a fan of the FJ platform since they were new in the 80's.  They were expensive at the time and I couldn't afford to buy one.  Fast forward over 30 years and my other ride, '90 FZR 1000, just isn't a ride that I can tour with my buddies on.  So I looked on CL and found my bike.  My FJ is a 1990 model in the dark blue and black paint scheme with about 34k miles.  It ran like poop when I got it but several tanks of fresh fuel, some Seafoam additive and new plugs have resulted in a smoother engine.  It has Uniflow individual air filters and a four into one exhaust so this winter the carbs will be off to Randy.  I'm lucky as I can literally drive to his shop.  The bike and I went for a  300 mile cruise yesterday.  I can say that everything I read about this model back in the day is true.  What a wonderful platform for touring on a twisty road.

Welcome Joe. happy you found the best place for you and your FJ. Join us for a ride. Two events are just around the corner and in your area. The fall rally http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=17127.0 and the Renegade rally. I am out for the fall rally but have enjoyed the last few. The renegade is less formal and full of its own kind of fun. http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=17205.0. This is good way to meet a few of us FJ hooligans and decide if you want to keep us or not.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Thank you Monkey. I just read about both of them today while forum surfing.  Dangit, I have to work on the 7th.  I'll keep the Renegade in mind and follow the link you pasted.

Welcome Joe!  Yep, as you mentioned, a short hop over to the RPM shop in Oakdale would be a worthwhile day ride for you.
Also, one of our forum favorites Frank (screen name: Flynt) is just south of you in San Jose, and will prove to you to be a valuable asset..

Enjoy that bike!  Cheers  Pat

Thank you Pat.  I read your story about buying the FJ and hiding it from the wife.  The wife pillow talk discussion was priceless!

For some reason I thought RPM was in Sac.  I just Google Mapped Oakdale, totally different location.

I should querry Frank aka Flynt if he rides Ca 130/Mt Hamilton Rd.  A FJ owner that I bought a seat from on Alum Rock Rd said 130 was a great ride.  His name is Duane.

Do you or FJmonkey know if I can change a setting somewhere so I don't have to Login after everytime I leave the tab that it's on?  I often have many, currently there are 17, tabs open on my PC.  When bouncing from tab to tab, site to site, I have to Login again when going back to the FJ Owners tab.

On the log in page below the password there is the "Always stay logged in" checkbox. If you don't click it the default is 60min (above it).

It has occurred very infrequently where I will be logged in and be away from the computer for a while and it has logged me out. But it's been a long time since it happened last.

If you've already done this and it still occurs then contact a moderator to help you out.  Unless there's something in your internet settings which is buggering it up.

We are about an hour and a half from Sacramento depending on traveling speed.

I do ride up 130 and usually go all the way around to Livermore...  The observatory is a nice stop with water, some vending machines, and great views of course.  The Junction is a good hamburger stop out in the middle of nowhere along the way.  The road has some tight corners, but is generally in good shape and has some spectacularly nice freshly paved sweeper sections.  I also know Duane and occasionally meet him along the way...  appears to be his regular ride.

My regular rides are generally more toward the coast.  Some really nice roads with nicely placed stops for refreshment.  Let me know if you'd like to ride together sometime.  This Saturday I'm planning to ride out to Oakdale and join the RPM Rally.  The following weekend Diane and I will be up at Andy's for the Renegade Rally.  It looks like you're busy on these days, but I'm usually up for a ride and most often will have Diane on back.

Small world, you know Duane.  Thank you for the 130 description.  Someday I have to check it out.  I was thinking that instead of taking it out to 5, I should go north to Livermore like you suggested.  That gets me more toward home.

Yes, unfortunately I have to work this weekend and need to visit Dad next weekend.  Life getting in the way of riding.  I felt fortunate to be able to sneak in a coastal ride up north this past Sat.  I will keep you in mind for a ride especially if I feel like heading south.  With most everyone else riding newer motorcycles, it would be interesting to ride in a pack of FJ's.
