Modification satisfaction

I just finished up the round of modification on my 1993 FJ. It now wears a 2001 FZ1 swingarm, a YZF600 R rear wheel and brake that FJ Hooligan included in the sale. It also has a 1991 FZR 1000 front wheel, a RPM shock, fork brace and RPM fork valves and springs installed by Hooligan. I'm running Metzeler Roadtec 01 tires and so far absolutely love them. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the dual tone Goldwing horns. My Db meter shows them making 125 Db of deer scattering racket. I am meeting up with some local riders tomorrow morning to put some more miles on the new tires and consider what changes if any I want to make on the spring preload on both ends. Yesterday I made a pass on a nice twisty road close to home and was highly impressed with the changes to the handling and ride.

^^^ THAT's what it's all about :good:

Kudo's Joe!

Question: What did you do to get the 17mm axle on the '91 FZR wheel to fit your forks?

I did the RPM shock and fork valves on a '92 I just finished and I am mighty impressed.
I have yet to try the Roadtec 01 tires, they are on my list for my next set...
....if or when those Michelin Road 4's ever wear out....  or, do they ever wear out?

Enjoy your new FJ Joe!

Pat,
Thanks for the kudos!
I used a pair of 6203/15 bearings. They are identical to a standard 6203 except for the 15mm bore. Fred Roosjen in Holland pointed me in that direction. I had my machinist bush the inner bearing spacer from the FZR wheel to 15mm, the 3CV inner spacer I have is about .040 narrower than the FZR. I think if I did this swap again I would have the fork legs drilled and tapped for the 17 mm FZR axle to lend a little more rigidity to the bottom end of the forks.
