speedometer interchange question

Anyone know if a speedometer from an 84 will work in a later model cluster?

I mean the 84 speedometer itself, not the entire 84 cluster.

I found a mostly destroyed 84 cluster with a good speedometer in it:

I don't know what someone was doing with it, but it's sure messed up!

But it's got the KPH on the outside ring and MPH on the inside ring. I've only got 25 bucks into it, so no loss if it's junk.

My 89 had MPH on the outside ring and the KPH cluster I have in there now only has KPH. I'd like to have the KPH/MPH dial in there.

It goes without saying that all the different speedometers have different part numbers, so no help on looking up an interchange.

Worse comes to worst, i suppose I can try swapping the dial face on to the later model speedo guts....

I made an '85 speedo fit in my '86 cluster. I swapped a part or two over and even the needle, as the '86 one was in better shape. It can be done.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.
