Bikes Completely Dead.......Bugger

Hi all,

So I have a FJ1100 1984 that was sitting in a shed for 10 years, I have just recently (after a great deal of frustration) gave the carbies a good clean and put them back on the bike, starter her up and gave her a squirt and it revved reasonable well,  gave it a few more spirited squirts.....then noticed that fuel was pi$$ing out of the overflow so killed her pretty quickly.

Went to start her and suddenly had absolutely nothing. no lights, no nothing.......completely dead in the water.

I have been running her off a jump starter pack as it doesn't have a battery.

My mind goes straight worse case scenario which is did the positive and negative leads of the jump pack touch?? I dont remember hearing/seeing a spark, but for a bike to just die on the spot and knowing these cables have come close to touching before (I know......should have learnt from the first near miss) I would have to think this is a real possibility.

I checked the fuses in the fuse box and they appear ok (2x 15amp and 1 x 20amp), so is there any other fuses that I can check? maybe a relay?

I feel a significant electrical inveistgation is ahead of me :Facepalm:

fuel piss is stuck float needle.  bang on carbs from R and L sides with a rubber hammer.
My 84 is dead also. 3 shops later, still no go.  I hope Randy can fix it. That engine is so very, very nice.

Look for a looped over red wire at the rear of the battery box. Pull the cover up, there is a 30 amp fuse and a spot for a spare inside. Shorting the cables together of the jumper pack shouldn't blow the fuse of the bike.

Good news!!! It was just that fuse......however I still have fuel pouring out of the carbies (over flow and out of the throat.

Looks like the carbies are coming off again......

   Check the o rings on the float valve needle seats. It's quite common for them to go hard and leak when the bike has been left sitting for a long period.

Check that the two vents on carbs 2 & 4 are free to air. I made the mistake of plugging them and had fuel everywhere - the vents are close to the fuel intake pipes. I also have the ;84 1100. Cheers
