I suspect my wife of twenty years has become unfaithfull. No definitive evidence but little things that just don't add up. For example, she is very defensive about her cell phone conversations and emails. When I try to talk to her she becomes very cold and alienated, we haven't been romantic in month's. Sometimes she stays out all night or comes home at 3:00 am with the smell of alcohol on her breath and her hair and clothes are in disarray. Last night I decided to stay up until she came home. About 3:15 am a car pulls up in front of my house that I do not recognize and my wife staggers out of the passenger side. I quickly hide behind my motorcycle so she won't see me. It was right about this time I notice a small crack in the chin fairing near the kick stand. Should I attempt to repair this with fiberglass or a plastic weld?

I'm no expert, but given that the crack is likely from cyclic stress, I'd recommend fiberglass to keep it from happening again.

I would also recommend fiberglass. It will be a longer lasting repair

I use fiberglass fiber and epoxy, all the repair i did on the fj never broke after!!!!

Cracks in the chin fairing near the kickstand are frequently caused by brake fluid from a leaky clutch slave.

Might be a good idea to make sure that's not a problem before any repair.

Skyfive you are taking all the right steps.
By speaking out you have clearly defined the issue you are facing.
In actively seeking the counsel of your very wise friends, a resolution is close at hand.
So don't take this lying down ... NO  :ireful:

Remove the complete fairing and place it on your bench for a thorough examination.
Carefully cast a mould so you can reproduce the belly pan for your fellow forum members.
The material of choice would be a 1.2mm thermosetting amino terminated polyacrylic.
That'll show her that you mean business.   :empathy:

I don't know that I'd spend much effort on fixing things - probably just trade it in on a better one - you'll be happier in the long run.

The chin fairing may be worth the effort to fix though...

Travis398

a good chin fairing is hard to find

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

All repairs should be carried out with a epoxy mixed with fiber and a litre of your wife's blood. Blood should be drawn from the left ventricle.

Hope this helps with the distress you feel when you see such damge to your beloved FJ..
