Hi every one,

The fj as been standing in the shop for +- 100 days, the oil and filter was changed before storing.

Should I change it again? Is 100 days to much for new oil to still be in good condition??

I would probably not change it.  Seems wasteful.  Some may say water may have condensed and accumulated therefore it should be changed -and if that's true I would agree, but only if that's true.  To test, I'm thinking you can run the bike up to operating temperature and look to see if the oil is at all foamy, if so you have water in there and it should be changed.  My guess is that it will not be and therefore, back to my original point, I would not change it.

Others may disagree.

Depends on the conditions of the storage.

If it was stored in an area that experienced wide temperature shifts, you can easily get water in the oil from condensation internally in the motor.  Within reason this is not a problem, and unless you live where it's super humid or something, I wouldn't worry so much about it.  If the bike was just parked, I'd worry more about corrosion in the cylinders, really.

If you started the motor and let it run a bit while it was stored, but without getting the oil to the full temperature, it'll be full of yuck, and needs changed.

Cheap insurance if you change it, and peace of mind.  The other thinking is just run it hard, let it burn the crap out of it, and let the filter do its job at filtering the particles, don't worry so much.

Either way.

No wide temp. shifts, the motor was stored with storing oil in all the cylinders and did not succumb to the pleasure of starting the motor!! (don't how I was able to do that!)

I generally resist the urge to go out and do short rides if my bike has been sitting a while. Instead I wait until I have time for a good 2-3 hour trip. This will get the oil hot enough for long enough to burn off all the condensation and avoid the acidic nastys.

My father, a lifelong mechanic, swore by this trick. Don't know for sure if it is correct but no vehicle we have owned has ever had a big end failure or bearing issues when overhauled.

Just did a 2 1/2 hours ride with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if it was stored for more then 100 days, the FJ started like it had never been stored. a little bit of smoke from the oil in the cylinders and that's it!!

It was so cold my balls went up my throat!!

But it was worth it!!!

Can't wait for tomorrow for a other ride!!!

greetings to all!!

I've driven through isolated snow STORMS on the way to work the last two days.  I'm about done with this winter crap!

Glad to hear I'm not the only twisted freak pushing the bounds of reason for a little throttle therapy. Ride safe, boys. I'll be out tomorrow ahead of rain. And yes, I have succumbed to the pleasure of starting her. Nice turn of phrase. Does it count as abuse even though it was up to temperature and cruising speed, just never left the centerstand? ( Rhetorical question, please no diatribes or I will resort to using smileys so you know when I am being sarcastic.)

I thought smileys were to show your feminine side?  :drinks:

My XR650 started after cranking for a 1 count on last years 20w50.  The battery is 9 years old.   :good:

I would take pic with my cell and send it to yours if I wanted to show you my feminine side. Lucky for both of us I don't have a cell phone. Very impressive thumper ya got there, my bud's XR650L runs on gasoline not 20W50 like yours. My Honda popped right off this spring too once I gave it ether and jumper cables. Now the FJ, she's like a Diesel- just never shut her off.
