Anyone tried "Seat Concepts"?

In anticipation of the WCR, I really need to do something about the seat on my FZ1. Going numb after a couple of hours in the saddle is not at all fun or comfortable.

Corbin and Sargent seats are more than I want to spend.

Came across a place that has very reasonable prices and you use your existing seat pan.

Curious if anyone has used them before?

The testimonials read very well.

They may be worth a try.

I have Corbin seats on both of the FJ's. For any long rides, I have been a convert to the Air Hawk seat cushions. After my 1100 miles in 22 hours ride using the Air Hawk. I felt no different the next day, than if I did an easy 200 mile day ride.

Seat Concepts is what I am using on my 09. After one ridding season I give it a favorable review. It needs some time to beak it. Was a little hard at first but, the more I used the better it got.

A pneumatic stapler is a must. I should have put the gripper cover on the back seat. Hope all is well with you and have a great rally.

Are those cushions hard to get use too Fred, I know a sore butt would most likely love it, do you ride until the sore butt meter goes off then pull it out, you would think your butt would love it but body position on bike would be a little off. I guess its for the long hauls. Not sure if it was you Fred but if it is, I hope your Mother is still charging along, It was either you or Capt Ron that did the iron butt ride to get to her side via FJ power.

The 1st time you use an airhawk cushion it will take about 90-100 miles of riding before you will get used to the odd/unique feeling. Yes it does raise your sitting position an inch or so, actually a benefit of slightly less knee bend. Typically on rides of 200 miles or less I won't use it. On 300+ mile day rides, I will use it and on the 500-1500 mile destination rides, I will use it at the very start of the ride. On the really long rides, you need too keep your sore butt meter registering on the low side from the very beginning of your ride. On my 1100 mile Saddle Sore 1000 ride, I averaged 150 miles between every stop.

There is good improvement for sore butt syndrome with a sheepskin as well.

I've tried seat Concepts on my Tiger and KTM 950. Both were a big improvement over the OEM. I bought a $20 air stapler at Harbor Freight that uses easy to find Arrow staples. Get 3/8" SS staples.

I have heard many times about riders who use the sheepskin, what about those blistering hot days, where does one find sheepskin for motorcycle use? I have never seen it sold anywhere or even at bike shows. Sure I could use google but would like an opinion of the pro's and con's of sheepskin.

Thanks for the input everyone. I will likely just send them my seat pan and have them do the install. I don't feel like messing with it. Have a big enough wrenching project going on right now that will probably make me go postal before I'm done.

It takes me about an hour to remove a cover(if its stapled on) and reinstall, plus it gives you an excuse to buy a pneumatic stapler

Had a seat concepts on my FZ09...better than stock but not what I wanted. A guy named Eddie Copeland did a new seat for me and fixed all my complaints...top notch job. I have no idea if he does FJ saddles.

I think just about anything would an improvement over the stock FZ1 seat. It's the biggest complaint from other owners.

Will give them a try and hope for an improvement.. If that doesn't work, I'll try something else..

Bean, you are correct, the stock FZ seat is terrible. I couldn't ride for more than about 1-1/2 hours before I had to get off. Even worse than the stock FJ seat. My only other complaint on the FZ1 is the windscreen.

Many years ago some multi-brand company in Arizona was converting to a Harley dealer and liquidating their Japanese inventory. I managed to snag the Yamaha factory "alternate" seat for my '02 FZ1 for $104! I figured anything was better than stock. As fortune had it, the factory alternate seat was made by Corbin. I'm very happy with it.

I talked to Eddie Copeland about doing my 1990 FJ seat before I snagged a Corbin for it. He said that he should be able to make a significant comfort difference in a FJ seat.

Send a pm to Mike Ramos. He had his seat done by a guy up in the Redding area. A couple other guys have the seats by that guy/shop and they all like them.

Mark Martin also has a seat done that he really like from a different shop, might be worth sending him a pm too.
