Does Anyone Else Like to Ride Alone?

Really all depends on my mood. Most of my riding has been solo, but I have had times when a buddy and I have jumped on the bikes and just started cruising Angeles Crest from Acton (home town) in the early am, and got back at dark. Those were good days, but there really isn't a bad ride. I've ridden in all the weather in SoCal. Rain, snow, wind, dry, you name it. Live in Big bear for a year and a half when I had my 1975 Yamaha XS650. That was my only set of wheels, so it got used year round, even on snow and ice covered roads (not the brightest candle at times  :wacko1:). Been so cold that when you get home, get a luke warm bath, and it feels like 150 degree water, or tucked in behind a rig to block the rain and warm up (no brains there either, but it worked). I wouldn't trade any of it for anything. Those were actually good times.
Don't know if I can handle any marathon rides like that any more. Heck, I'm not sure my back will handle sitting in that position for any length of time period, but I have to try.  :good:

Most of my riding is with others, which I prefer. My wife rides as well, and we usually do so together. We have covered thousands of miles together. Every couple should be lucky enough to share a passion as we do. We do a group ride on Monday nights during the riding season that is open to whoever wants to join us. We usually get between 4 to 12 bikes. It can be challenging riding in groups, larger groups being more difficult. We have some guidelines we follow for these rides to make it safe and enjoyable for all. Staggered formation, waiting at turns, signalling lane changes and obstructions in the road, designated leader and sweep etc. And, of course, ATGATT!

While the larger groups are great when you stop to eat and BS, the logistics of keeping everyone together can be a nightmare, especially for the lead rider and sweep. My ideal group is between 4 and 6 riders with similar riding styles. If there are more people, or there is a big difference in the speed people want to ride at, splitting into 2 smaller groups and meeting up for breaks works well also.

I have to agree with others on here that the rides at the FJ rallies are some of my best motorcycling memories. And yes Scott, the 20 from Fort Bragg to Willits definitely stands out! A bunch of finely tuned FJs running down that road is magic! Go to a rally, join in with a group of like minded people and enjoy the ride! The key is to break off into smaller groups of people who like to ride at a similar pace.

Is it rally time yet?!
