R1 rear end conversion!

Question to others who have done this conversion, when doing the rear suspension linkages how far out of line were yours? frame and shock is a given to be good but the swing arm suspension mounting point is out (to be somewhat expected).  However it is only off by 6mm is this the norm? I thought it would be more!  The swing arm being used is a R1 big bang.  Thanks  Russ

Hi Russ,
On the 3xw bikes, the original shock is offset to left.  The R1 swing arm I used (2008) is also offset to the left but a bit more as I recall.  On mine I had to remove the inside spacer (looks like a washer welded on) from the top shock mount so it would be straight.  Other than that it bolted up fine.  I used the original R1 dog bone.

Good call Jeff :good2: Yep the '91's on have a left offset shock mount. Yamaha did that for the ABS pump clearance.

Based on Tim's (axiom-r) experience, I would be wary on using an adjustable link.

Just had a look at "Tim's (axiom-r) experience" and that is what I thought might / could happen with using a rose joint either end so I will still try the dog leg but when you take a look at drawings it's only 3mm each side of the line. It will be solid ally billet machined to the required offset and quality bearings both ends. The math says it will work but the real test is on the road. When the day of test ride comes I will tell all and if you see my fj12 for sale you know it went wrong lol ..... But it will all go better than factory.   Russ
