Ok thanks Robert....Good to know about the pistons....So therefore, if I were dealing with the thicker vented rotors on the early FJ's (or thinner pads) to be safe, I would insert a piece of 3/8-1/2" thick material between the pads.

Yeppers, a dial indicator would be easier, but not everyone has one of those in their tool box.

Its thickness is 5 mm as you can see. Would the pistons pop out because of the 2.5 mm difference (minimum thickness for OEM is 7.5 m). And I suppose its minimum thickness is at least 4.5 mm (maybe less, don't know) after wearing. That puts the difference at 3 or more millimeters.
